A DeepL alternative, honestly compared
DeepL translates the sentence. The work is everything on either side of the sentence.
Is BeMyWords a good DeepL alternative?
Probably not, because they are not the same kind of tool — and plenty of teams want both. DeepL is a translation engine you send text to, and it is very good at that. It does not know which strings your site has, which of them changed this morning, which were signed off, or how any of them reach a page a visitor can load. That gap is the job BeMyWords does: it finds the strings, remembers them, applies your glossary and do-not-translate rules everywhere they appear, and delivers the result through a script tag, your build, the REST API or an MCP server. If your problem is the quality of one paragraph, use an engine. If your problem is that nobody knows what is out of date across eleven languages, an engine cannot see it.
| DeepL | BeMyWords | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A translation engine, with an API | The system around whichever engine translates — memory, rules, workflow and delivery |
| Scope | Translates the text you send it | Finds the strings, tracks which ones changed, and gets them onto your pages |
| Delivery | Returns translated text to your code; putting it on the site is your build | Four connect modes sharing one memory — script tag, build-time files, REST API, or MCP server |
| Customisation | Glossaries, style rules and translation memories | Glossary, do-not-translate, substitutions and per-language prompts, on every tier |
| Quality | Engine output is the product | Two automated scans over the result — checkup and language audit — and a monthly proof receipt |

When to choose DeepL
Choose DeepL when what you need is the translation of a piece of text, not a system that keeps a site's translations current.
