A Weglot alternative, honestly compared
The same paste-a-tag install. The difference is what happens after — and where your translations live.
Is BeMyWords a good Weglot alternative?
It depends on one thing, and it is not price. If your site has a build we can write files into — Astro, Rails, Next.js, Vue and the rest — then yes: Build mode ships real translated pages at real URLs, they rank like any other page, and your visitors never contact us at runtime. If your site is on a hosted builder with no build, then Weglot does something we do not: their proxy serves a real page per language, so Google can index it, and our script translates in the browser at a single URL where it cannot. Our rules — glossary, do-not-translate, substitutions, per-language prompts — apply on every tier rather than the higher ones, and languages are unlimited from the first paid plan.
| Weglot | BeMyWords | |
|---|---|---|
| Install | Paste a JavaScript snippet | Paste a JavaScript snippet — same move |
| Runtime | Translations flow through their infrastructure | Embed serves from us — or Build mode ships translations inside your own deploy, so runtime never touches us |
| Search engines | Their proxy serves a real page per language, so Google can index and rank each one — on any platform, including hosted builders | Build mode ships real translated files at real URLs, which rank the same way. Script mode does not: it translates in the browser at one URL, so on a hosted site Google sees your source language only |
| Editing | Visual editor in their dashboard | Konami-code editor on your live site — works even on fully static Build-mode sites |
| Rules | Glossary on higher tiers | Glossary, substitutions, do-not-translates and per-language prompts on every tier |
| Pricing shape | Tiers by words and languages | Tiers by words only — languages unlimited from Starter. Or BYOK: flat 199 kr, no meters |
| Proof | Usage dashboards | A monthly receipt: strings translated, languages kept live, checkup score |
When to choose Weglot
Choose Weglot if your site is on a hosted platform — Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow — and you need the translated pages to rank, not just to read. Their proxy gives you a real URL per language there and we have deliberately not built one, because it would mean routing your visitors through us. Also choose them for the ecosystem: years of edge cases, a big integration catalog, and a large support team.
